தி Genocide

Have you ever wondered, what you would do if suddenly you find no place to live. No place to sleep, no place to eat, no place to cry….U search around and find everyone around you homeless, foodless and a sudden grief engulfs you, consuming you with an evil smile.

Surrounded by children crying not for food but out of pain, you see around the destruction of an open firing. We would not mind if they are dead, but what if you see a child without one leg and another in a pool of its own blood.

This is what, is happening in our neighboring country. How many of us realize it? How many know what is going on? Certainly not me, I admit that. So I have decided something, we as a sensible creature residing in this planet need to do something. Even though not personally, I believe our thought process may shape up things positively.

To sprinkle a bit of history, let me start up with a past of 60 years from now. Our neighboring country was a cluster of Tamil people and others. Speaking in numbers, it would be 30% of Tamil population. The first independent Lankan government decided in enacting anti- Tamil legislation. Couple of laws enforced where, Citizenship act of 1948 and “Sinhala Only Act “in 1956. The reason behind this was, Tamils were of Indian origin. Thanks to the British.

The marginalization of Tamils started with depriving them of their home and land, driving them out to redistribute the same to the sinhala people. The anti Tamil riot started to take a more violent form during late 60’s. Violence was aimed at every where and in every town Tamil lived. People who protested where burnt under the cover of the government and police.

Let me start with the below picture, the sinhala thugs had stripped naked this boy and danced around him before he was brutally burnt to death.

Another mode of weapon used by the thugs to suppress Tamil’s was Raping. School children, girls, ladies, women all were gang raped. There had been an incident, where a mother of 4 aged 35 was gang raped by policemen and had exploded a grenade into her genitalia to cover up the evidence of crime. Many a thousands have been raped and murdered not even leaving children below age of 10.

People were instructed to take cover in churches and schools against aerial bombing. But commencement of their mistrust against the whole world started when the churches and schools were purposefully bombed, sparing none alive. Leaving a startled group of some million, craving for peace, the army and police have not refrained from attacking hospitals, schools and colleges infact those are their favorite spots.

Many have fled out of the country leaving behind, their history. Leaving the land and house where they and their family were brought up. The people who did not flee were prisoned or trapped; they are not allowed to move out of the country nor to another city or town. People who are suspected by the government vanish. People are locked up in rehabilitation camps and their lands are inhabited by sinhals. These things confirmed the innocent civilians that they could not rely on the law enforcing authorities to serve them justice.

Another dangerous sword pointed towards the innocent civilian was that of the Rebels.
The very nature of the motive of rebels have changed, the reason being their diminution. The Rebels have started using the innocent civilians as their human shields against the shelling of army. The rebels shoot down people who try to leave the country.

The rebels have insisted on every household contributing atleast one person to their forces. Not even sparing children in this instance. Many children (boys and girls) have been dragged out and forcibly made to bear a missile. I could imagine the picture, how these boys and girls would have clung to their mother and cried aloud when they were carried off….. Oh God….it makes me sleepless…….

(A picture of a baby born with a Bullet)

The world and the world leadership think that civilian loss is worth the defeat of the rebels. The world is tired of violence. The innocent civilian is between the devil and the deep sea. Where can he flea? For all they asked for was equal justice for co existence with dignity and safety. They have no other option than accepting the overlordship of the rebels or barbarism of the selfish government.

Friends, how to stop this? What is the path for peace? I do not want any more children searching for his father or mother in the pile of dead people. Show me the direction of light. I request you all to pray for 2 minutes for the innocent. Atleast our mutual prayers may bring all the light back. I request you to spare your two minutes of everyday at 9.00 pm for the people facing violence. Our mass prayer may open the door of happiness. Hoping to join hands with you all friends, for this cause of bringing in the peace.
